Spring School Circular Economy
The French-German Spring School brought together PhD students and experts to discuss sustainability between Germany and France. The program featured engaging "My Thesis in 180 Seconds" PhD pitches, highlighting cutting-edge research.
Participants explored circular economy solutions through visits to the wbk Institute of Production Science and the IAM-WK Institute for Applied Materials, where they examined innovative recycling processes. At the Institute for Technical Chemistry (ITC), they learned about advancements in concrete recycling and polymer recycling. An industry visit to Liebherr-Ettlingen GmbH provided hands-on insights into sustainable industrial remanufacturing.
The event fostered cross-border collaboration, emphasizing Europe's commitment to a greener future.

Business Lunch with Nestlé Germany
As part of the French-German double-degree program, we had the pleasure of hosting our first Business Lunch with Nestlé Germany last February at the campus Arts et Métiers in Metz. This event has been a fantastic opportunity for the students of the French-German Doctoral Program to learn more about the company, explore internship opportunities in Germany, and gain valuable insights into the corporate world.
Beyond career opportunities, this lunch also highlighted the importance of languages in today’s professional environment. With presentations held in German, French, and English, our almost 50 double-degree students at Metz experienced firsthand the power of multilingualism in an international career.
A huge thank you to our guests from Nestlé Germany for their time, expertise, and engagement with our students. We look forward to future collaborations and even more exciting exchanges! Many thanks also to John Fritsch for having coordinated this event and to the almost 50 students for their participation! Thanks to this event, more than 4 double-degree students have already found an internship.

Steering Committee Meeting 2024
Key discussions included the potential introduction of new research axis in Circular Economy with a dedicated Circular Economy workshop planned for Summer 2025 at Arts et Métiers in Bordeaux.
In education, the Double Degree Program agreement was extended until 2029, with growing student numbers. Efforts in communication and promotion will be reinforced, including a campaign highlighting student success stories. Additionally, the French-German Doctoral School continues to thrive, with future funding applications set for the period 2027-2030.
Innovation was also a key topic, with discussions on integrating entrepreneurship education within the double-degree program. Both KIT and Arts et Métiers aim to increase joint participation in startup and innovation events to foster international collaboration.

Strengthening French-German Collaborations between KIT and France
We were honored to welcome the Counselor for Science and Technology at the French Embassy in Germany, Siegfried Martin-Diaz, the French Consul General in Stuttgart, Gaël de Maisonneuve, the Attaché for Science and Higher Education in Bavaria and Baden-Wuerttemberg, Emmanuel Delille, and the Artistic and administrative director of the Centre Culturel Franco-Allemand Karlsruhe Marlène Rigler at KIT to present activities in education, research, and Innovation within the French-German Institute for Industy of the Future.

German student delegation visits Arts et Metiers Metz and VivaTech
In the context of the French-German double-degree program in Mechanical Engineering, a German delegation of 19 students accompanied by Sarah Witte and Sarah Arnoldi has been welcomed in at the Arts et Metiers Campus Metz on May 21st and 22nd. A rich program has been elaborated beginning with the visit of the city of Metz. The second day has been opened by a welcome notice of the campus director Pr. Stéphane Fontaine, presentations of the French-German Institute, doctoral-college and double-degree, as well as the Erasmus+ exchanges between Arts et Metiers and KIT. The students had then the opportunity to get a glance of practical courses in the campus workshops, focusing on milling, forging, foundry and material science teaching. The afternoon has been composed of exchanges with double-degree alumni and presentations of the two research laboratories of the campus, LCFC and LEM3. In the evening, the German students have been received by the French students for the presentation of Arts et Metiers student life. On May 23rd, the delegation had the opportunity to move on to Paris to visit the VivaTech exposition.

French-German Symposium on XIRCON
The theme of the French-German symposium was "eXtended Intelligence for Rapid Cognitive Reconfiguration", which also encapsulates the essence of the Innovation Campus Future Mobility project XIRCON.
Rapid reconfiguration in manufacturing is critical in today's fast-paced market, where volatile customer demands, short product life cycles, and diverse product variants necessitate swift, adaptable manufacturing systems. Traditionally, these adjustments are performed manually, leading to time-consuming and error-prone processes. The XIRCON project endeavors to transform this scenario by offering a holistic solution that integrates Digital Twins, eXtended Reality, and Artificial Intelligence. This initiative aims to facilitate faster, more efficient reconfiguration processes, minimizing downtime and enhancing overall productivity.

Graduation ceremony of double-degree students
Students in the French-German double-degree program received their Engineering Diploma and the certificate of the French-German University, proudly presented to the camera. Congratulations to all of them and good luck for the future!
